Dorothy lives in a one-room house in the beautiful state of Kansas with her hardworking uncle and aunt. A tornado appears and she and her pet are carried away by the winds. Dorothy falls asleep as the house whirls through the air.

When she awakens and goes outside she finds she is in a strange and spectacular country inhabited by small, strangely dressed people known as the munchkins. Dorothy’s house has fallen on the Wicked Witch of the east, ruler of the munchkins. The Good Witch of the North gives Dorothy the witch’s red shoes, which have special powers. The good witch tells Dorothy to go to Emerald City, ruled by the Wizard of Oz, hoping the wizard can help Dorothy return home.

On her way to Emerald city, Dorothy makes three new friends: a scarecrow who says he has no brain, a woodman who says he has no heart, and a lion who says he has no courage. Dorothy tells them to go with her and see if the wizard can help them too.

Dorothy and her three new friends arrive to Emerald city, where all of the houses are green and decorated with emeralds. They ask the Wizard of Oz for help, but the wizard refuses to help them until they kill the Wicked Witch of the West, who rules over the people living in the west, known as the Winkies.

So they travel to the west, and the Wicked Witch of the West captures them using a magic golden cup. After Dorothy and her friends become their servants, the Wicked Witch of the West tries to steal one of Dorothy’s shoes. Dorothy gets very angry and throws water on the Witch, what melts the woman as heat melts ice.

When they return to Emerald city, they discover a terrible secret…
