STORY

Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack. One day, Jack’s mother told him to sell their only cow. Jack went to the market and on the way he met a man who wanted to buy his cow. The man offered Jack five magic beans for the cow, and Jack accepted.

When he reached home, Jack’s mother was very angry because she didn’t believe in magic beans. She threw the beans out of the window. Jack was very sad and went to sleep without having dinner, since he was not hungry.

The next day, when Jack woke up in the morning and looked out of the window, he saw that a huge beanstalk had grown from his magic beans. He climbed up the beanstalk and reached a kingdom in the sky, with a large castle at the distance.

Jack slowly entered into the castle and saw a huge giant sleeping inside. He quietly began to explore the castle. He found a lot of treasure. He decided to take some back with him so that his mother and he would no longer be poor.

At first, Jack only took food: eggs, bread and butter. Then, he started to take expensive things, such as coins and jewellery. He couldn’t carry all those giant things at the same time, so he had to climb the beanstalk and go down several times.

The giant, had a magical harp that could play beautiful songs. While the giant slept, Jack took the harp and was about to leave when the giant woke up and saw Jack stealing the harp!
